Image Transfer

I just visited Linda Lock's blog and found that she has a nice video on image transfers. Those of you who painted the Paris Grocery or Paris Cafe with us might be especially interested in see the video demo.
I see that she has a new book also. I'm sure it will be as good as the others have been. Check out her web site for info.

Artful Play

Class last night was just pure fun, playing with watercolors. All the students were in the right mood to experiment with a new medium, new to us at least, and I was starting to remember what I had learned from Anne Abgott in the seminar I took from her last summer. We played with mingling colors and watched how they interacted, and applying them to a wet surface or a dry surface. And then we all wandered around to see what everyone else had discovered. And we even started a painting of the pears above. More fun waiting for us next week.

I love the vivid colors that Anne uses and her techniques, and have been wanting to play with more watercolors. I've been collecting photos, thinking that this one would be a great watercolor and that one would be exciting as a watercolor. Taking this seminar with Anne helped me see the paintings waiting to happen in the scenes around us. Now I'm into it, watercolor that is. Be sure to check out Anne's web site for some of her amazing paintings.

Just last Saturday while we watched it snow outside, I had a class warm and inside painting a Kathie George watercolor batik. What fun and all the painting turned out so nice. We even had 2, new to painting, students that painted wonderful Tuscan Window batiks using Kathie's design. Now the whole group of them wants to paint another batik. We're thinking of having an "open" batik class on another Saturday where each student can choose the design she wants to work on and I will assist.
If you have tried the watercolor batik and were less than satisfied with your result, please reconsider and come paint with us in one of these small Saturday classes where I have the time to give you individual attention. I even show you how to correct your painting if you need to adjust something. Some of the students are saying that after this type of experience, they love the batiks. And start with a less complicated batik until you understand the process. That makes a big difference. The Tuscan Window is a wonderful design because it is not difficult and turns out beautiful. You can paint it in our open batik class, to be scheduled soon.

If you are interested in an open Batik class, start checking out the wonderful designs on Kathie George's web site.

And if the watercolor class sounds like something you would like to try, but need to paint during the day, let me know. We're having day interest and I need to find out who is interested so that I can plan a date and time. The class fee includes the paint, paper, and pattern.

OK, what next with watercolors?

Don't worry I haven't neglected our acrylics either.

No Tue classes this week

No Tue, Feb 2 classes.

There is still enough snow and ice on the road to make driving conditions a little slippery so we will not have classes on Tue Feb 2 either in Raleigh or the Cary evening class.

If the Tue morning painters would like to come to the Wed morning class this week to work on their paintings, they would be welcome. Please pass the word.

Wednesday classes will meet this week.

Cary painters, we will just meet next week to continue with our Breath of Spring painting.

See you painting soon.
Liz

Feb/March/April Class Schedule

We're updating our schedule. Check often for added classes.

Winter Weather Policy

Our primary concern is for you to be safe on the roads. If you don't feel safe to be out driving, please stay at home.

In general, our policy for inclement weather is to follow the Wake County School closings. If the schools are closed, so are we.

Please check the blog for our current status in case of bad weather. I'll post as soon as I can tell what the road status will be.

If we cancel a week of class, we will resume our projects the next week and push the classes forward a week. If I don't cancel a class but you don't feel you should be on the road, I will help you make up your class as I usually do. We have our Tue morning open class or any other time period that I feel I would have time to assist you.
