Leaf Study

Painting Realistic Leaves
May 18, 2007 Friday 10a-4p
With Liz Miller CDA

There is much satisfaction to be gained from painting a beautiful, graceful flower. There are so many varieties and colors. And, each flower is different. If you're painting flowers, you'll want to paint beautiful leaves. Actually many flower petals or what we call petals, are really leaves and even more flower petals are painted similar to leaves. So it's very important to learn how to paint realistic leaves. In this class, we'll learn to paint generic leaves; however, all of this leaf theory applies to most leaves.

The focus will be to understand how to paint realistic appearing leaves rather that painting a specific project. We'll paint on mat board that you can keep for reference.

How I Got Started In The Decorative Painting Business

I finally saw my article in the Decorative Painter Magazine and was very pleased. Writing the article was lots of fun and afforded me the opportunity for some good remembering. Over the years there have been ups and downs with scary times, but mostly wonderful days spent with people I enjoy, sharing the art that I love. I've feel so fortunate to work at what I enjoy.

They did have to edit the article to fit it to the space. And, edited out Lynn and Dianne who have worked with me so long. Please go to my web site for the entire article. www.artfulendeavors.net/LizBio.html

Decorative Painter

Have you seen the latest issue of the Decorative Painter? I have an article in it(pg 110), plus, a photo of my certification board is in the certification corner! I don't have my DP yet, but I went on line to see it after some of you let me know I was in this issue. Thanks.

What? You haven't joined the Society of Decorative Painter yet? This is a great way to support our passion for painting. Besides being a member of SDP you received the DP magazine with great articles, (like mine), projects, and the latest in decorative painting happenings. You'll be eligable to take classes at the convention next year in Tampa, too.

Check out the web site at www.decorativepainters.org, and you can join while you are there.

Seminars and Workshops at Artful Endeavors

We've just finished our 2007 seminar with Ginger Edwards and she was wonderful as usual. We learned so much. I think I understand her rose at last. Now all I need to do is paint 500 of them and I should have it . I love my poppy that I painted on my sewing cabinet, too. I'll have a photo of it for you a little later. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves a lot, although we worked very hard on Sat learning Ginger's rose techniques. But, everyone was painting beautiful roses by Sunday. I wish you could have seen them all. We had a great group of painters this year again. It was so nice to meet all the out of town painters. Going out to dinner together is a great way to get to know them as well as Ginger. Decorative artists are interesting people.

We have our plans for our 2008 seminar with Ginger already! We saw some wonderful paintings that inspired Ginger and us. We'll paint a wonderful scene on canvas with Plaid's new textured paint for an oil painted effect. And, probably paint beautiful zinnias on a functional piece. We'll also have a "Girl's night out" the evening before the seminar, with fun "make it and take it" projects . Ginger has learned to needle felt and make these fun pins. And she was talking about a cleaver painted domino necklace, too. Fun, food, fellowship, and painting make a great way to spend an evening. Mark your calendars for Feb 29, March 1 & 2, 2008!
