A Walk in the Yard

Lilac buds
Our latest day trip has been our walk in our yard. Spring is our favorite time to tour our yard to watch the progress of all the flower blooms.

Smiling dogwood

Forsythia, the first to bloom

I have Rick taking photos of the blooming progress this year for fun. And, I'll have lots of flower painting reference shots.

The volunteer peach tree is always exciting to watch each year.

And even weeds are beautiful this time of year.

Daisy Journal

Did you see my latest published project in Quick and Easy Painting? It's the Daisy Journal.

After watching my students take painting notes on scrap paper and check deposit slips, I decided that we needed to paint a journal for class notes and painting ideas. I found a spiral journal that was just the right size and when I looked around for inspiration, my eye fell on some of Gail's wonderful digitally designed papers from Shabby Cottage Studio.

When the whole sheet of paper didn't fit the way I wanted it to without losing the wonderful scroll design, I decided to cut it in half and piece the cover with a contrasting blue, and loved it. Then I did some research through my/Rick's photos and found just the daisy to complement the papers. It was so much fun putting the design together and using different papers to cover the outside and inside of my journal. Now it's ready for notes.

Day Tripper

My sweet husband and I have been on another day trip. What fun. Rick, the day off, sunshine, and my camera. This time we headed to Rocky Mount, somewhere we have both passed through but not really stopped. What caught our eyes and cameras was the wonderful old buildings, most in disrepair, but with great details. I think I see some exciting painting references.

For more photos from our trip please visit our Day Tripper blog.

Stamping

Last weekend some members of the Carolina Mixed Media Art Guild met at our studio to create cards to send to the soldiers over seas for them to send back to their loved ones. I hope the soldiers enjoy the card because we certainly did enjoy make them. Our brave leader, Lucy, brought boxes of stamping supplies with several types of inks and some beautiful stamps, then proceeded to show us stamping novices how to use them to created exciting stamped designs. Our over all favorite technique was smushing and stamping with the chalk inks. What fun. Lucy was a wealth of information about inks and stamping techniques. I am now much wiser regarding stamping.

Love those Beads

Some of you know that I am having fun making necklaces and part of that fun is looking for vintage finds, bits and pieces, and beads. Soon I'll show you some of my beading fun.

I found a fun give away for some beautiful beads. Check out Barbara Lewis, torch fired enamel beads on Painting with Fire.

Art is so much fun. It's so varied.
